Opening Night and Film Showing

Come join us to open the 2024 Meadowlark Nature Festival and celebrate the beauty of nature and those that steward the land. Doors will open at 6:00pm for dinner, with welcomes and film presentations beginning at 7:30pm. Our first Meadowlark movie night will screen the awarding winning work of BC filmmakers, including:

Bringing the Salmon Home

The mighty Columbia River was once the source of the world’s greatest salmon runs. But massive dams have blocked salmon from returning to the vast headwaters of the upper Columbia River in Canada for 85 years.

Bringing the Salmon Home tells the story of the Syilx Okanagan, Secwépemc, and Ktunaxa Nations who uphold their sacred responsibility to reintroduce the salmon. In this half-hour film, first person stories combine with vivid landscape and underwater footage, and archival film, to tell the long-hidden story of these Salmon People..

Produced by Bringing the Salmon Home: The Columbia River Salmon Reintroduction Initiative, 2023.

Keepers of the Land

In the heart of British Columbia’s Great Bear Rainforest, one Nation is reclaiming the power they held for millennia. As the impacts of colonial exploitation and mismanagement take toll on their territory, the Kitasoo Xai’xais Nation finds strength in its stories and culture, emerging as a stewardship leader in a new age of reconciliation in Canada. A powerful story of resurgence told through the eyes of elder and hereditary chief Nismuutk, Ernest Mason Jr., and the new young leaders following in his footsteps. Produced by the Kitasoo Xai'xais Stewardship Authority and Moonfish Media, 2023.

Wings of Hope: A Bustling Village and Their Bird Friends

Menar, a small village near Udaipur in Rajasthan, despite not being a reserved bird area has become a safe haven for thousands of resident and migratory birds. It highlights the extraordinary efforts of the locals (called Menarias) to make these birds feel secure in their bustling village. Produced by Gunjan Menon And Roundglass Sustain, 2021.

Presented each year by the Okanagan Similkameen Conservation Alliance (OSCA), the Meadowlark Nature Festival (May 16th-20th) showcases the spectacular natural wonders of the Okanagan and Similkameen Valleys, offering over 50 tours including hiking, cycling, kayaking, traditional Indigenous storytelling, painting and writing workshops, and more.
